This is the Marina as it would have been when the waterways were the roads of yesteryear. It is a great location for customers to sit in the cosy lounge with its inglenook fireplace or dine alfresco on the terrace watching the activity aboard 300 narrow boats. Upstairs, the ‘Crow’s Nest’ houses a corporate, conference and function room which has its own bar and magnificent views from the private balcony overlooking the Marina. The range of Waterfront stores is interesting and varied, from foods to gifts, from shoes to art. The attraction to the area sprung up out of an old gravel pit and has undergone a full ugly duckling to swan transformation to become a busy and chic canalside venue. In November 2007 a bridge was erected with safe lighting to link the development to Barton Village.
We are very proud of our association with the National Forest and encourage visitors to fully explore the immense wildlife area. So have we achieved what we set out to do back in 1992? We think so. Attractions like this can only be beneficial to the community, provided they are completed sympathetically and to a high standard, both of which have been achieved.
The Marina undoubtedly brings new people to Barton under Needwood, and with the future plans, should continue to do so in greater numbers in the future. The other great thing is that many of the shops stock local, high quality produce, which again helps to integrate the community and support local production by bringing the products to a wider audience. Not only can Barton marina boast its shopping experience but it really has become part of the Burtons social scene with music taking place every weekend in the pub as well as a wide and varied range of events. All in all, if you haven’t been already, Barton Marina is definitely worth a visit, we are sure that you will not be disapointed…
